Ladies & gentlemen, we have lift-off! :D
I CAN WATCH THAT!!!
And I did. Just like I told my grandpa I would. :)
There's a massive story goes along with this, but I'm too worn out to type it all up now. Stay tuned for the adventurous details!
I'd received a computerised phone message yesterday confirming the appointment for the tech to come set up my upgrade. Great. Went to work today, & had a doozy of a morning, but I was psyched to get home & wait for them to come hook everything up. The appt. was set between 2 & 4 pm, & I got home @ 12:30, had some lunch, cleared the stuff off the top of the entertainment center - I was determined to get my peripherals hooked back up! - disconnected the DVD player in the back room (wanted to try getting that hooked back up in the living room), washed the rest of my dishes, & talked quickly to my mom.
At 2:30, I get a phone call, asking if someone would be home so the tech could come. I said I was already home, & they confirmed the address. So I sat down to watch some tv & wait.
And I waited...& waited...& waited...
4:00 came & went. As did 5:00. At 5:30, I figured there was no way they could be hung up on a job that long (my initial thought was that they'd run long at the previous customer's place), so I called the company. At first, it seemed they had no record of me even setting up the appointment! But I had a confirmation number. Next, they found a record of a work order for me, but they said it was already done! Nani?! Um...no, my phone is still plugged into a regular wall jack, I'm still on dial-up Internet, & I don't have all those extra cable channels I'm s'posed to get. They once again confirmed the address & phone number, the latter of which I had to pay an extra $40 (one-time fee) to keep after the changeover to digital; otherwise, they'd have issued me a whole new number!
Long story short (too late), it turns out there HAD been a tech dispatched, who somehow managed to accidentally go to the WRONG ADDRESS, where SOMEONE ELSE let him in, & SIGNED FOR the installation of MY upgrade! Fortunately, they'd been able to track the modem when I called, & though they were, at first, gonna dispatch someone to rectify the situation tomorrow, they were able to get a guy out tonight to do it.
He was a really, really nice guy. Kind of looked like Anthrax's Scott Ian, without the beard. Had a nifty tattoo on his forearm. This guy went above & beyond! He had to re-route some of the wiring, since the signal wasn't coming through very well, & the 'net wouldn't connect. He had to run a new cable through from the outside, & made sure to get my consent before he drilled through the wall. He was really careful not to disturb the breakables! Even after everything finally got set up (& he worked his tail off to do that much!), he not only triple-checked that everything was working properly, but he re-did the old cable connection (which is, like, 20 years old) 'cuz the wire was kind of kaput (it's a good thing I tidied the basement last weekend!), & that made the channels in the back room come in super-clear! That tv (as with the one in my bedroom) isn't upgraded, & some of them were less-than-watchable, but that was because of the old connection.
He wanted to try & help me with my peripherals, but it turns out that digital cable is incompatible with a lot of that stuff, like DVD players & VCRs. So the DVD machine will go back in the computer room (tomorrow). One of these days, I hope to get a DVD/VCR combo for the living room, but until then, he was only able to hook one VCR up to the digital box, & even with that, I can't tape off the tv (which SUCKS!), but at least I can watch tapes somewhere other than my bedroom now! He even explained to me which wires he put where, so I know how to do it in future if I have to swap VCRs or something.
It was SOOO funny, 'cuz I was checking to make sure I got additional channels as promised, & what do I find playing right then & there on the NickToons channel, but DRAGONBALL Z!!!! I kinda freaked out (in a good way) when I saw that, which made him laugh. He shook my hand before he left, & again after he had to come back 'cuz he'd left one of his tools in the back room. ^_^
Only I would have to go through that much for something as simple as high-speed Internet! XD Called my mom (while simultaneously gawking at DBZ & logging onto the 'net), who is happy now 'cuz she'll be able to get hold of me even if I'm on-line. :)
Anywho, feel free to post video clips now, 'cuz I can see 'em! ^_^
